UK Shops that Stock Plus Sizes

We all know how nerve-racking it can be going clothes shopping for size sixteen plus clothes. In some shops it just takes you one withering look from the assistant or raised eyebrows from your fellow shoppers for you to realise that they don't stock anything above a 12 but what about the other shops? The ones where you see women of all shapes and sizes going in? How can you make shopping for clothes less than a hit-or-miss affair?

With our guide to the best shops for plus sizes that's how! Here's a round up of the best shops to visit for size sixteen plus clothes. Now shopping need never be a minefield again!

BHS

Stocks clothes up to a size 20, all colour coded. There are plans to introduce a larger size range for Spring/Summer 2001. Good for basics though not a hugely fashionable range.

Marks & Spencer

All clothes go up to size 22 but the stores are stocked regionally so availability can vary. Some of the major stores stock the new plus range which goes up to a size 30. Good quality clothes, some fashionable, some classics.

H & M

Selected lines in this store go up to a size 18 but tend to be a bit smaller cut than some of the other shops we've surveyed. Definitely a fashionable selection of clothes - if you can find them in your size.

New Look

The main range New Look clothes go up to a size 18. They also offer a plus size range that goes up to size 24. The clothes are up to date and fashionable and very reasonably prized however the plus size range only offers a selection of the main range.

Gap

Gap clothes are marked with the American sizing system so if you're a size 16 you may be pleasantly pleased to find out you can fit into a pair of Gap size 12 trousers! However, the range only goes up to a UK size 18 (Gap size 14) and it can be a bit hit or miss if you can find any in that size.

Etam

The Etam Plus range stocks up to size 26 but you may have to hunt around to find the Etam Plus range amongst the other, smaller clothes.

Next

Shopping at the Next store may be a bit disappointing if you're over a size 16 - as they don't tend to stock anything larger than that due to 'space restriction' but you can order many more items in a size 18-20 from the Next Directory.

Evans

Evans stock plus size clothes from a 14 to a 28 in the Seven range (a younger and more fashionable range) and 16-32 in their more traditional range. You certainly won't feel out of place at Evans as women of all shapes and sizes shop there.

Dorothy Perkins

The sizes go up to size 20 but not every style. That said there were plenty of size 18s available when we visited and the style is up-to-date and varied.
