How Do I Make A Graph of My Weightloss?

One of the most motivating things about being on a diet is seeing a graph of your weightloss. Watching those numbers drop down and down is a great feeling and every time you add a loss to it you feel a great feeling of achievement.

But how do you actually MAKE one of these weightloss graphs you see online?

Well, first off we'd recommend you use Excel, at it is supplied with most Windows-based PCs these days. To do it follow these instructions:

  • When you open Excel it will show 'Book1' and a spreadsheet. Type todays date into the rectangle at A1
  • Click on B1 and type the date it will be at your next weigh in. Then click on C1 and type in the next weigh in after that.
  • Continue adding dates for D1, E1, F1 etc for as long as you want. We did it for 5 weeks! (to save time for this demo!)
  • At A2 type in your current weight. Next week when you weigh enter your new weight (hopefully a loss!) into B2
  • Now to make a graph... Click on the rectangle of A1 and keep your mouse held down. Drag it to the right and down one so that all the dates and your current weight, and all the empty squares for your weight in weeks to come are filled.
  • Now release your mouse button (making sure it's all still selected) and click on the 'Insert' menu at the top of the screen. Select 'Chart'
  • Choose the kind of chart you like (we like 'line') and press 'next'. Click 'next' to the next window too. Now give your graph a name and call x 'date' and 'y' weightloss
  • Click 'as object into sheet' and the graph will be inserted onto the same page.

You won't actually see a 'line' on your graph - this is because you haven't lost any weight yet! Just to see type a figure into the rectangle for your next weigh in and press return. You should see the line on the graph drop.

It should look something like this:

Sounds all too complicated? Well Hackers Diet have created a computer tool to help you create a weightloss graph from Excel. You can download it for free by clicking here

Alternatively you can download "Weight-By-Date" by www.provariant.com. You can use the software for 30 days for free, then it costs about $20.00. In addition to making a graph of your weightloss you can also enter your weight by day and review your plan.
